Scottish Water needed to replace the scrapers and since existing supplier framework agreements had expired a contract was awarded to GMJV who sourced tenders from the marketplace for the refurbishment of the scrapers.
Xm Services became involved in the tendering process and initially performed a series of site visits to understand the scope of the project requirements which essentially involved the decommissioning and removal of the existing scrapers and the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of two replacements, all within a five month period.
Using its global network of wastewater equipment suppliers supported by its local engineering expertise, Xm Services was able to identify and create the most cost effective bespoke turnkey solution, delivering the required operational benefits in terms of robustness and within the specified time frame.
Following the submission of its proposal, Xm Services was formally interviewed and audited by GMJV to demonstrate the procedures it uses to monitor and control health and safety issues and also to present the quality system in place used as a part of ISO9001:2000 accreditation.
Being successful at this stage, GMJV awarded the turnkey contract to Xm Services for the refurbishment of the two scrapers which comprised the following:
Effective project management through rigorous implementation of the ISO9001:2000 quality systems.

Preparation of detailed design documentation including:, full site surveys, functional design specification, general assembly drawings, component drawings, load calculations, design risk assessments, method statements, design review meetings and approval documentation.
Overseeing the manufacture of the equipment and performing the necessary Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and inspections prior to the equipment being despatched to the UK to ensure conformity with EC standards and the agreed design specification.
Coordination of the equipment delivery with the emptying of the settlement tanks to minimise disruption to the operation of the sewage plant.
Provision of all refurbishment activities including: site supervision, confined space qualified personnel, qualified first aiders, all necessary tools and equipment, cranage, scrap disposal, mechanical and electrical assembly and installation, completion of NICEIC certification and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
Provision of training during handover and submission of as-built documentation.
